What do we do?
In addition to the fundraising we also organise some aspects of life at Scarcroft School:
Walking Busses
FoSS helps organise two walking buses.
Route 1 runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays via Southlands Road and Millthorpe
Road (Organiser Kate Cambridge).
Route 2 runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays via Tadcaster Road (Organiser Kate Timms).
What’s a Walking Bus?
Children walk to school in pairs along a safe route (forming a ‘bus’).
There is a parent ‘driver’ at the front and a parent ‘conductor’ at the back.
‘Driver’ and ‘conductor’ are trained and CRB-checked.
Parents can join the rota to operate the bus; or they are welcome to walk along.
At least 2 parents per 8 children (KS1) or per 16 children (KS2).
Children join the bus at agreed ‘bus stops’ along the route.
Children and parents wear reflective jackets.
Parents and children sign consent forms.
This is insured by the council.
Contact the school office for leaflets and further details.
Creche
FoSS runs a creche for pre-school children during Good Work Assemblies and other events.
These are manned by volunteer parents who are CRB-checked. We are currently looking for helpers for the creche.
Please contact Jean Gray if you wish to get involved (see Contact Us section).
CRB checking
To get yourself CRB-checked, so that you can help with school events, please ask for a form at the school office.
